Land Use And Farming Technology

Haiti is more mountainous than Switzerland. Haiti has a very limited amount of cultivable land.

28% of Haiti's land is fit for cultivation - Arable land.

Only 11.61% of Haiti's land is use for permanent crops.  A permanent crop is one produced from plants which last for many seasons, rather than being replanted after each harvest.

Examples of permanent crops include citrus, coffee, rubber, land use for flowering shrubs, fruit trees, nut trees, and vines

Land used for trees grown for wood or timber is not considered permanent crop.

54 to 60% of Haiti's land is appropriate only for tree crops or pastures because of severe erosion or steep slopes.

39 Percent of Haitis Land is not cultivated

42.2 percent of land in Haiti was under constant or shifting cultivation, 19.2 percent of Haiti's land was pasture land, and 38.6 percent was not cultited

This is based on an estimate of land used in Haiti back in 1978.

Now it's probably worse since people on the country side keep migrating to the cities.
