Haiti Population

The estimated population of Haiti in 1989 was 6.1 million, with an average population density of 182 people per square kilometer.

As of July 2005 Haiti's estimated population was about 8,121,622 people. that an increase of more than 2 million people in less then 20 years.

about 75 percent of the population lived in rural areas in the 1989 study, while only 25 percent remained in urban areas.

Haiti has one of the lowest urban-to-rural population ratios in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The estimated annual population growth rate between 1971 and 1982 was 1.4 percent.

The crude mortality rate in 1982 was estimated to be 16.5 percent, with a crude birth rate of 36 percent. A profile of the population reveals that the majority of Haitians are young.
