Haiti Religions

There are many religions in Haiti. Here is the breakdown of the Haitian population by religion:

  • 80% of the Haitian population are Roman Catholic
  • 16% are Protestants
    • Baptist - 10%
    • Pentecostal - 4%
    • 7th Day Adventist 1%
    • Other 1%
  • 3% of the Haitian population practice other religions
  • About 1% of the Haitian people have no religion

This info is based on the statistics from the CIA world fact book data

What about VOODOO? Is Voodoo not a religion?

There is a note attached to the CIA stats tha states "Roughly half of the population practices Voodoo".

This is a strange note since "voodoo" is not categorized as a religion in the list.

haiti religeons my opinion

as a prowd haitian, i can say that voodo isnt only practiced in haiti.

there are different forms of it. in the united states itself, there are people amung the fifty states who are from places other than the west indies, that practice different rituals.

for it to be a religion, there has to be a fact of a great exsistance, followers and worshipers, rituals are just rituals if you dont have a motive to do it. people go to church and worship god, therefore its a ritual to prey to him. i think that voodo is not a religion its a belief that opinionates ones faith in what might or might not exist...

Voodoo Religion or Culture?

I don't have the proper knowledge to call Voodoo a religion but I would say that it is definitely a part of our Haitian Heritage.

Being that the African culture and belief system has been totaly deleted from our mind during the time of slavery I think voodoo is a topic that we should know more about.

Dont your agree?

What is VOODOO?

I believe that Voodoo is a religious practice decedent from the African culture.

Now, we have to remember that religion is a behavior practice by a person or a group of people regularly as belief.

Therefore, I consider Voodoo as a religion.

But what is the practice of the Voodoo religion.

Before God/Christ was introduce to the outside world, different culture had the own ways of worship their God. It is to my understanding that Voodoo was one of those religions practice in Africa.

The practice of spilling blood to reach the higher power is spiritual to me. One would not go to this extreme act of hurting, torturing, killing, destroying, taking, oppress a country, with out some type of emotional attachment to this behavior.

Most Voodoo practitioners believe in God, but also believe in the power which many claimed to achieve with this religion.

As I travel the world, I notice that many different cultures have some kind Voodoo practice, but I think we Haitians are over the top. Will we ever give our life to one and only JESUS.

Haiti, the first free black nation in the world, but yet trail behind with nothing.

It is time to surrender our lives and our country for a better tomorrow.

The future of our nation is in our hands.

Are you ready to give it to GOD.
