Home > Haiti Transportation > Haiti Ports And Harbors Haiti Ports And Harbors There are quite a few port and harbors in haiti where ships can dock.
The two main international ports, or ports officially opened to external trade, in Haiti are the ports of Port-au-Prince and that of Cap-Haïtien.
Haiti has seventeen coastal traffic ports of which eight receive international traffic
Here are some of them:
- Port of Cap Haitien, Haiti
- Port of Gonaives, Haiti
- Port of Jacmel, Haiti
- Port of Jeremie, Haiti
- Port of Les Cayes, Haiti
- Port of Miragoane, Haiti
- Port of Port-au-Prince, Haiti
- Port of Port-de-Paix, Haiti
- Port of Saint-Marc, Haiti
The main part of these installations were built or re-habilitated during the 1970 – 1984 period.
The National Port Authority (APN - Autorité Portuaire Nationale) is a commercially motivated independent body placed under tutorship of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, whose essential mission is to provide port services to ships and users of Haiti ports.
It, namely, has the mandate to: develop, maintain, operate, manage the country public port facilities and improve the performances and economic return, establish the tariffs, rates, laws and rules of all ports, promote, develop and administer the “Free Zone”.

Some info regarding the ports of Haiti from seasecure.com:
Mr. Jean E. Charles, the Director General for the Haitian National Port Authority wrote, “Haiti is reliant upon its ports for its economic survival.
Our ability to ensure uninterrupted commerce is critical, particularly in light of new international security requirements.
Given the immense importance of achieving compliance with the ISPS Code and other regulations, the Haitian government instituted a rigorous selection process in search of a world-class maritime security consultant.
SeaSecure LLC, Haiti's new partner in port security, has already performed and is pursuing comprehensive security assessments of most of the Haitian ports, and then is writing security plans for use by both the National Port Authority and the Government's Designated Authority.
SeaSecure is also providing much-needed training to our port executives, security personnel, and government agencies on maritime counter-terrorism and security.
The alliance of Haiti and SeaSecure will help to protect our commerce, ports, and visiting ships and crew from terrorism and crime, and we look forward to a long and beneficial relationship.”

Richard Lebrun's comment about "Haiti Ports And Harbors"
Haiti Ports and Harbours I wish to add to this section that there is another port in the Port-au-Prince bay which is called Terminal Varreux SA. This port is private but regulated by the National Port Authority (APN). Terminal Varreux is a multi-purpose pier and receives about 300 vessels a year. These vessels transport to Haiti everything from containers, petroleum products, food (rice, sugar, etc... ) and bulk cement. The port is located in Port-au-Prince at the corner of Blvd. La Saline and Route National No. 1. This port is vital to the Haitian economy as it facilitates the flow of goods into the country. Terminal Varreux is ISPS certified since March 2007 and continues to improve the quality of its services. For more infor contact me: Richard Lebrun rlebrun at gmail.com
